HOW TO CREATE A POSITIVE HOME ENVIRONMENT

Your home is the last place you arrive to after having a hectic day. How would you like to feel as soon as you step inside? Relaxed or stressed? How you decide to decorate your  home can dictate your mood and your overall mental health. Having control over your surroundings can have a positive impact on your mental well-being. Below is a list of tips that can help you create a positive home environment.

MAKE BETTER USE OF THE SPACE YOU HAVE

Instead of going all out and getting a full #renovation, consider working with the space you already have. The smallest of changes can transform your house significantly. Try shifting and shuffling your furniture. Get rid of that lamp you bought impulsively, replace your old collection with a new one. In short, declutter wisely. Making these small improvements in your living space will show positive effects on your mood. A cluttered space looks cramped and appears chaotic whereas an organized and clean space appears more welcoming.

However, decluttering can take you only so far. The real challenge comes afterwards – that is, maintenance. Doing the dishes and folding fresh laundry are examples of small tasks that we tend to procrastinate on the most. However, there are simple tricks to overcome your laziness. For instance, try the One-Minute Rule. The rule dictates that if a task requires a minute or lesser than that, you should complete it right away. Once you start taking on this habit, you will see how much faster you check off those tasks on your list of chores!

ADAPT FENG SHUI OR A ZEN HOME STYLE

The previous tip was more directed towards logical folk. To create a positive home #environment, here are tons of ways to bring good vibes into sanctuary. For instance, Feng Shui works well for some people. It basically refers to the ancient Chinese art based on the placement of energy in a house. Having Feng Shui elements in a #house can bring peace and harmony. Ensuring a few basic things such as an organized space, welcoming more natural light, allowing proper air circulation, etc. can help you incorporate Feng Shui in your home.

However, if Feng Shui is not your cup of tea, you can take a simpler approach. Following the Zen philosophy means being content with minimalism. The Zen philosophy prioritizes tranquility, naturalness and subtlety. Decorating your house accordingly will bring a manifestation of Zen attitude on your mental state.

COMMUNICATE BETTER WITH EACH OF YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS

A lot of our problems would be easily solved if we bothered to communicate better. A happy #family equals a positive atmosphere at home. One of the most important tips to harboring a happy home and to create a positive home environment is to make sure your individual relations are taken care of. Making time for each other, showing up to events together, hearing out each others needs and wants would probably prevent a majority of our conflicts.

CARRY OUT ACTIVITIES AS A FAMILY

It’s easy to dismiss a family outing saying you’ve had a tiring week. While we carry on with our hectic lives, it’s understandable to want to stay in on a weekend instead of doing something exciting. However, the trick is to incorporate some sort of activity in our daily schedule that will bring the entire family together. If you’re not a fan of going to a gym, arrange #Yoga or Zumba classes for a minimum of half an hour. Not only will this help you take on an active lifestyle but this will also allow more family time in your busy calendar, resulting in a positive atmosphere at home.

EVERYTHING GREEN

Plants are the primary solution to a lot of problems. Adding plants in different corners of your house will not only improve air quality but it is also a great way of welcoming #nature into your home. The benefits of #houseplants are endless but it goes without saying that plants are great for decorative purposes as well. Decorate your home office or awkward corners of your humble abode and invite serenity into your living space to create a positive home environment.

It is easy to get swamped with other things instead of checking off boxes from your to-do lists. In the midst of our bustling lives, pause and take a moment to reflect on your life. Think about how you envision it and start taking small steps each day to create the calm and peaceful home environment you want.
